Raleigh Morning Class Instructor - Carolyn
Carolyn started her Tai Chi journey in 2011 with a large international organization where she learned a form of Tai Chi (there are many) developed by a Tai Chi master, Moy Lin Shin (called Mr. Moy), who developed it to help people of all ages to improve their health. Over the years she has experienced many health benefits such as increased core strength, flexibility, agility, loss of back pain and quieting of the mind. With her love of meditation, it was the perfect combination and she calls it “meditation in motion”. These health benefits have continued to increase even at her advanced age.
In 2016 she decided to teach through the international Tai Chi organization and started teaching at Unity Holistic Wellness Center in Raleigh just as it opened. This was a way to share with others what she was learning.
Then in 2020 everything shut down, but she found Tai Chi classes online from Kevin of Awareness Tai Chi who is from the same lineage of Moy Lin Shin. Kevin has been teaching for over 40 years and studied with Mr. Moy until his death in 1998. I was thrilled to see that Kevin was bringing Mr. Moy’s original teaching back to life. Kevin has a wonderful way of explaining these teachings.
In 2021 Carolyn decided to leave the larger organization and is now one of the founding members of Connection Tai Chi. She started teaching again at the Unity Holistic Wellness Center as a Connection Tai Chi Instructor. One of her goals is to dispel the myth that we have to lose mobility as we age, but, on a broader perspective, she wants to help others experience the benefits that Tai Chi can bring in a safe and supportive environment. We laugh a lot! We also foster a sense of community were we all support each other as we each grow at our own level. Once a month we have an optional lunch together at a local restaurant after class and there is a pot luck twice a year. Carolyn also sponsors a zoom workshop for students with Kevin each quarter.
Carolyn continues to learn from Kevin and is currently taking 3 classes a week in Tai Chi and other internal arts as she feels we are always both a student and an instructor. She is a certified instructor through Awareness Tai Chi. Carolyn is a retired psychotherapist and loves to meditate and studies other spiritual practices.
